New airport in montijo
Projects for the conversion of Montijo Air base into a civilian airport to handle the passenger growth of Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport are well under away and have been budgeted at around 1 billion Euros.
In October 2018, Portugal and ANA Airports of Portugal reached an agreement regarding the expansion of Lisbon’s airports infrastructure including the conversion project.
Back in June 2018 Lisbon Airport director, Joao Nunes, stated Lisbon Montijo Air Base could start handling commercial aviation by 2022. This comes after figures triggered the concession clause required with one of the conditions included over 22 million passengers per year.
Montijo, situated over the Tagus river from Lisbon, and connected to the capital via the Vasco de Gama bridge, is an upcoming area in the real estate and investor sector, given that Lisbon’s prices are reaching all time highs. New projects and regeneration in the area by developers and constructors are already on the rise due to the knock on effect of Lisbon’s housing market.
Spilling over to the opposite banks of the Tagus river to Montijo smart investors are now turning their interest to the next best thing.
